Dear Family & Friends,
My love for animals started at a young age. When it was time to think of my mitzvah project, I knew I wanted to do something to help animals. Fortunately, my mom’s friend, Kristen, started a foundation called Rescues Rock. Rescues Rock is a not for profit Animal Welfare, Education and Rescue organization. Rescues Rock operates out of BarkPark, a 24/7 foster facility located in Laurel Canyon that takes in at risk animals of all ages and runs a Kitten Critical Nursery too.The nursery focuses on terribly sick kittens that other rescues leave behind at the City shelters. During the pandemic Rescues Rock's Kitten Critical Nursery took in nearly 800 kittens while the City's shelters were on lock down and not allowing the public to enter. Rescues Rock is a partner with the East Valley shelter again this year and they are taking in more sick kittens... and puppies. too.
Over the past few weeks, I have been volunteering at Bark Park. I spent time in the Kitten Critical nursery and helped clean cages, changed their food and water, and comforted them with lots of love. I spent time socializing puppies so they will have an easier time transitioning to their forever homes. And I also volunteered my time at a bake sale event in Laurel Canyon that raised money for the foundation.

Kittens come to Rescues Rock with many different medical issues that could turn into something major and life threatening, but the team of people that care for the kittens help in nursing them back to health under veterinarian's orders. Once the kittens are nursed back to health and cleared by vets, they get sent out to foster homes for socialization and eventually are available for adoption. Another part of my volunteer work is going to be to spread the word about the healthy adoptable kittens.
Bark Park, also known as The Most Pet Friendly House in America also helps dogs of all ages. When pregnant dogs show up to the shelter, Bark Park takes the Mom and her puppies in and provides them a safe space. This is for the safety of the unvaccinated puppies because if they remained in the shelter, they are at risk for contracting deadly diseases brought into the crowded kennels through strays. Puppies raised at BarkPark are socialized with other dogs, cats and kids.
Rescues Rock also provides pet education to its group of junior volunteers who help out at BarkPark and Kitten Critical Nursery like I do. As many as 50 kids a week go to Bark Park to socialize, help with animal chores and learn the basics of pet safety and wellness.
It takes a village of dedicated people to run this foundation. So for my mitzvah project, I want to help raise funds to help these animals. The funds I raise will help Rescues Rock cover costs for the Kitten Critical Nursery and operations at Bark Park. Some of those costs are food, medical supplies, vets, vet techs, and paid professional staff. All donations big and small will help the animals in need. Thank you for helping me raise funds for something that means a lot to me.
